Dr. Torsten Goesch - Chairman
Partner
Bioscience Managers Ltd., Munich

Dr. Goesch has a proven commercial track record in building high-growth biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies and is an experienced general manager in international business settings. From 1997-1999, he served as Central European General Manager for Biogen Inc. Previously, Dr. Goesch was Commercial Head for the worldwide generics drug business of Merck Generics. From 1988-1990, Dr. Goesch practiced as a medical doctor at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf, with a focus on nephrology, immunology and oncology. Dr. Goesch received an MBA from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, Chicago in 1992.

 

Prof. Kai Simons - Founder
Director
MPI-CBG, Dresden

Prof. Simons is a world leader in membrane dynamics and the pioneer of the RAFT concept and the role of RAFTs in cell function and diseases. He has been honoured many times for his contibutions to molecular cell biology. In 1975, he became Group Leader at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany and started the Cell Biology Program that became the focal point for molecular cell biology in Europe over the next 25 years. He became a member of the National Academy of Sciences, USA, in 1997 and is the first President of the newly formed European Life Science Organization (ELSO). Prof. Simons served for five years on the scientific advisory board of Biogen Inc.

 

Dr. Ulrich Pessara

Dr. Ulrich Pessara had a solid scientific career in molecular immunology for more than ten years. In 1991, he joined Boehringer Mannheim where he was responsible for biopharmaceutical drug development with several international biotech partners. He served as managing director and board member in several international joint venture biotech companies in San Diego, USA, Milan, Italy and Hanover, Germany. After 1997, he served as director of program management for international biotech alliances at Hofmann-La Roche. From 2000 to 2004, he was co-founder and COO of Xantos Biomedicine, a Munich based biotech company, where he was responsible for business development and strategic development. Dr. Pessara has broad experience in business and financial transactions in the pharmaceutical and biotech environment.

 

Dr. Joachim Rautter
Director, Investment Management
PEPPERMINT. Financial Partners, Berlin

Dr. Joachim Rautter is responsible for investment strategy and portfolio management of PEPPERMINT Venture Capital Fund. He has extensive experience with technology start-ups and financing tools and coaches more than 40 companies in the areas of bio-, micro- and nanotechnology. Dr. Rautter is a trained physicist and biophysical chemist who gained his PhD in 1995 from the Technical University of Berlin. Dr. Rautter advises JADO on financial engineering and strategic development.

 

Dr. Jan Adams
Partner
EMBL Ventures, Heidelberg

Dr. Jan Adams trained as a Biochemist at the University of Tübingen and completed his Ph.D. with work at the Wellcome/CRC Institute in Cambridge/UK. For his postdoctoral training he went to Granada/Spain to work in stem cell genetics. He joined EMBL Ventures in 2002 as an Investment Manager. In 2006, Dr. Adams was selected as class 11 fellow of the prestigious Kaufmann Program for Venture Education.

 

Dr. Ivan Baines
Scientific Coordinator and Director of Services
MPI-CBG, Dresden

Dr. Baines has extensive experience in commercialization of research technologies. In 1997 he helped administer the $2.8 billion budget for basic and clinical life science research at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI, USA). He promoted the Small Business Innovation Research award program and was directly involved in structuring over 100 new start-ups. Dr. Baines helped establish the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology in Dresden and co-founded Biopolis Consultants in 2001.

 

A. Sinclair Dunlop
Managing Partner
MASA Life Science Ventures LP, Tokyo

As Managing Partner of MASA Life Science Ventures LP (MLSV), Mr. Dunlop leads the review and analysis of MLSV investment candidates. A former international business and economics analyst with the Center for Strategic & International Studies in Washington, D.C., Mr. Dunlop has private equity and venture capital experience in Europe, the U.S. and Israel. Prior to joining MASA Inc as its Director of New Business Ventures, Mr. Dunlop was an Associate at New Vantage Group, manager of several early-stage venture capital funds in the Mid-Atlantic region. In May 2000, Mr. Dunlop received his M.B.A. from Columbia Business School where he was the R.C. Kopf British-American Fellow in international business. He also holds an M.A. with Honors in Political Economy from the University of Glasgow and an M.A. in International Relations from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. He is a St. Andrews Society of New York Scholar.
